Tear Trough or Under Eye Filler

If you have a deep crease between your upper cheek and lower eyelid, you may have what’s referred to as a “tear trough”. The good news is there is a treatment that can be performed by Dr. Amy Kulak to help eliminate tear troughs. Dr. Kulak is a plastic surgeon in the Florida area who is dedicated to providing individualized patient care to help achieve personalized, natural results while utilizing the most current non-invasive technologies and products for facial rejuvenation.

What is Tear Trough or Under Eye Filler?

Tear trough or under eye fillers are injectable treatments that are used under the eyes to add volume beneath the eyelids. The most common products used for tear trough or under eye fillers are typically made of hyaluronic acid, although other ingredients may be used. Hyaluronic acid naturally exists in your body as a gel-like substance. Hyaluronic acid decreases indentations like fine lines and wrinkles and increases fullness when injected into the skin.

After tear trough or under eye filler injections, you can expect decreased dark circles under the eyes, a more refreshed appearance, and less under eye swelling. Tear trough or under eye fillers are generally safe and are less invasive than surgery for tear troughs. Good candidates for tear trough or under eye filler:

  • Don’t take medications that affect bleeding
  • Are physically healthy
  • Have thick, healthy skin
  • Would like to diminish under eye dark circle appearance
  • Suffer from mild to moderate under the eye hollowness.
  • Are consistently asked if they are tired or got enough sleep by friends and family

How Tear Trough or Under Eye Filler is Administered?

Before you receive tear trough or under eye filler, the doctor will assess your lower eyelids, check the thickness and texture of your skin, and then determine which type of filler is best suited to help your specific needs. The procedure will take place in a medical office, and these are the steps you can expect:

  1. The skin will be disinfected to prevent infection. A topical anesthetic can be used to help numb the area and prevent bruising.
  2. The syringe with the filler is prepared. The doctor can use either a sharp needle or a cannula needle to penetrate the skin. Many providers prefer using a cannula for the injections because of a lowered risk of the blunt needle entering a blood vessel during the procedure. The filler is injected into the skin beneath the lower eyelid.
  3. While injecting the filler, the needle is slowly withdrawn from the skin. To spread the filler, the area is lightly massaged.

The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure, and you may experience some swelling, redness, or bruising after the procedure.

Dr. Kulak did a fabulous job. She repaired a very large gaping hole where my mother’s eyelid wise. Dr. Kulak was able to do so without using a skin graft, which greatly shortened the recovery time. Now, my mother’s eyelid looks virtually the same even though about 75% of it was removed. We are extremely pleased with Dr. Kulak’s professionalism, attention to detail, concern and care. Highly... recommend her services.read more
