Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that is used to treat various skin conditions. It involves stimulating collagen production and is also known as collagen induction therapy. The treatment may be helpful to those seeking a reduction of stretch marks and acne scars. It can also be helpful in certain anti-aging procedures like sunspots and eyelid surgery. Despite collagen being excellent in regenerating hair growth, micro needling is generally not effective in treating hair loss.
The micro-needling procedure works by stimulating the skin to produce more collagen naturally. The theory is that the skin gets a minor injury from the needling pinpricks, and the skin’s healing process includes making new collagen-rich tissue. Microneedling is primarily performed on the face but can be used to treat scars on other areas of the body.

Microneedling is very minimally invasive, so the recovery time is minimal, and you generally require no downtime after the procedure. Redness and skin irritation may be common right after the service is performed, but it usually fades within the first day or two after the procedure. Your skin typically works quickly to regenerate new tissue, so results are commonly seen within a few weeks of the procedure.
Microneedling is done using a pen-like tool to make small pricks under the skin. You likely won’t notice any pricks after the procedure is performed, as the pinpricks are so small they are hard to see to the blind eye. As the doctor performs the micro needling, they will move the tool uniformly over your skin to promote new skin that is even.
Before the micro needling is performed, the doctor will use a topical anesthetic about an hour before the procedure. The actual micro needling process takes about thirty minutes on average, depending on the severity of the skin. After the procedure, the doctor may apply a calming serum or treatment to soothe and calm the skin.
