Dr. Amy Kulak is a board-certified Oculofacial Plastic surgeon and ophthalmologist. She serves patients in the Fernandina Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, and Jacksonville areas. Her office specializes in many procedures, including cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, tearing disorders and dermal fillers, and eyelid rejuvenation.
As you get older, the first part of your face that begins to show signs of age tends to be around the eyes. You may develop what you call bags under your eyes, crow’s feet or wrinkles around the eyes, and droopy or heavy-looking eyelids. Eyelid rejuvenation is a procedure used to eliminate the excess skin around the eyes and create a more distinct appearance in the eyelid area.
Eyelid Rejuvenation surgery is also referred to as Blepharoplasty surgery. It can be performed in the office or outpatient procedure. The surgery typically takes an hour and has a recovery time of about 10-14 days. Some side effects often include bruising and swelling around the eyes and some blurred vision and dry eyes.
The surgery focuses on removing the fat, excess skin, bags, pouches, and wrinkles in the eye area. This is done to create a more youthful appearance.
Upper eyelid rejuvenation surgery involves making incisions along the crease and lines of the eyelid and removing the fat that is present, and extracting the muscle and skin.
In the lower eyelid surgery, the incision is near the lash area or inside the lower eyelid area.
Both eyelids are typically done simultaneously to give a more individualized approach and achieve the patient’s goals. The procedure is then completed through suturing.
While this surgery is basic and straightforward, you will still need to be in good health and have realistic expectations. This surgery is unique and done particularly for every patient as not every surgery is just alike. In general, candidates for eyelid surgery include those in good health, nonsmokers, individuals with a positive outlook, and individuals without serious eye conditions. It would be best to always talk to your doctor about any medical concerns you have before the surgery to make sure you are a good candidate.
If you are looking to get blepharoplasty, you may want to know what all it can treat. This surgery is suitable for:
loose or saggy skin that creates folds of the upper eyelid
excess fatty deposits on the eyelids
bags under the eyes
drooping lower eyelids
excess skin and wrinkles on the lower eyelid
If you are experiencing any of these problems, we can help.
